Job Summary

 

Skilled craft-work at the journeyman level work measuring, cutting, altering, removing, replacing, and installing glass windows, doors, skylights, and other apertures at school district facilities.  This entrance level class lies below that of Painter Foreperson and Painter/Glazier Foreperson.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Measures, cuts, alters, repairs, removes, replaces, and/or installs glass windows, doors and door frames, skylights, and other apertures at school district facilities including wire glass, tempered glass and plexiglass, and window hardware and door closures, according to specifications.
  2. Prepare and set glass in structures using such materials as bolts, screws, putty, grinding and buffing wheels, glass cutting tools, and other materials and devices.
  3. Loads and unloads materials including heavy sheets of glass.
  4. Erects and uses scaffolding.
  5. Removes dirt, scales, rust, old paint, grease and other materials.
  6. Cleans groove in which glass is installed.
  7. Makes minor repairs to equipment and apparatus.
  8. Estimates time and materials required for glass cutting and installation including type of glass to be used.
  9. Reads and interprets specifications and/or blueprints as they pertain to glass work.
  10. Observes safety precautions (to include securing openings where work is in progress), maintains clean work area, and properly cares for tools and materials.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Probation : 6 months

 

Qualifications

 

Open Requirements:   Four (4) years of experience in the glazing trade with knowledge of the tools and equipment of the trade.   

 

Promotional Requirements:  NA

 

Licensing/Certification/Registration: Depending on assignment, a valid Florida Class D Driver's License may be required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) 

  • Knowledge of the techniques, methods, materials, tools, practices, and procedures of the glazing trade.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work
  • Skill in the use and care of equipment of the trade
  • Skill in cutting and installing glass
  • Ability to erect and use scaffolding in the performance of assigned duties
  • Ability to make minor repairs to equipment and apparatus
  • Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions, job orders, and job-related materials
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to make estimates of time and materials
