Job Summary

 

Maintains and monitors systems to protect data from unauthorized users.  Identifies, reports, and resolves security violations.  Provides technical information security, network, and computer forensics work.  This classification lies above that of Technology Services Technician II and below that of Technology Services Technician IV - Security.

 

Essential Functions

 

1. Installs, configures, tests, troubleshoots, administers, and monitors, security, forensic, and access systems, as well as network security devices, both remotely and onsite to ensure compliance with district standards.

2. Reports security incidents in compliance with district standards.  Performs computer forensics investigations including media analysis, evidence seizure and recovery, and presentation of evidence, as required by district policy and/or Florida statutes.

3. Analyzes security threats; performs security tests on both hardware and software; performs security audits and formulates protection strategies; and takes action to address risks and incidents.

4. Responds to all security trouble calls, resolves complex security problems, and refers more complicated security problems to a supervisor.

5. Researches, recommends, documents, maintains, and implements current and new processes and procedures including, but not limited to, warranty work, preventive maintenance, disaster recovery, security plans, and training/resource material.

6. Troubleshoots network access problems and ensures compliance with network security policies and procedures.

7. Performs evaluations on user requested products to evaluate potential security infrastructure conflicts.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Probation: Six (6) months

 

Qualifications

 

Open Requirements:  

A five (5) year combination of education, training, and experience installing, configuring, and maintaining network communication systems including the operation of data networks, routing concepts, security policies, firewall concepts, Identity Detection Systems (IDS)/Identity Prevention Systems (IPS), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and computer forensics.

 

Education may be substituted for experience for coursework, major, or degree; in Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a related field; as follows: twelve (12) semester hours of course work for one (1) year of experience; an Associate’s degree for two (2) years; or a Bachelor’s degree for four (4) years of experience.

 

All Technology Division employees will be required to have a working cellular phone that supports voice call and text messaging.

  

Promotional Requirements:  All permanent employees of the unit who have served for two (2) years in the class of Technology Services Technician II are eligible to take the test for Technology Services Technician III (Security).

 

Licensing:  A valid Florida driver’s license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.  May be required to furnish an automobile in good condition for use on School Board business, for which mileage compensation will be paid.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Strong knowledge of computer security, data communications, Wide Area Network (WAN) technologies and Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networking and routing concepts
  • Strong knowledge of network equipment and operating systems

  • Strong knowledge of effective precautionary procedures for protecting and maintaining electronic data security

  • Ability to provide basic training to users in both one-on-one and small group settings
  • Ability to consult with users to identify network communication and security problems and their resolution
  • Ability to configure devices using documentation to include manuals, instructions and technical support notes
  • Ability to work with and view images, e-mail, and files that may contain inappropriate material
  • Ability to work with tight deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
