Job Summary

 

The staff member who holds this position will serve as a Speech and Language Therapist to evaluate,  write individual education plans, and participate in Eligibility Determination meetings for children referred to our district, who are suspected of having a disability.  This staff member must have a working knowledge of current evaluation tools to provide accurate reporting of a child’s abilities.  They will need a strong knowledge of early childhood milestones and development.  This staff member will work with other evaluators and Admissions Representatives to determine the appropriate educational services for the preschool aged children who come through our office.

 

Essential Functions

 

1. Participates in Multidisciplinary Team meetings to interpret speech/language evaluations and to provide prescriptive strategies for parents/teacher and other professionals working with children with communication disorders. 

2. Completes Speech or Language evaluations for children ages three through five or not yet enrolled in public schools and develops IEP goals and objectives using information gathered from the speech/language evaluation and previous service providers.

3. Assists in preparation of required district, state federal documents and projects.

4. Maintain current records and reports as required.

5. Performs other duties as assigned, such as provide training to other professionals or therapy services to students.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology preferred.  Candidate must be in second year of program and must complete Master’s degree to remain employed.

 

Experience: Five (5) of teaching experience in the area of Speech/Language Therapy

 

Certifications & Licenses: Must be eligible for Florida Department of Education Certification in Speech Correction.  Certificate of Clinical Competence for American Speech, Language, Hearing Association and/or state licensure preferred.

  • Attend regularly scheduled staff and program specific meetings
  • Ability to create an effective Individual Education Plan
  • Working knowledge of students with special needs
  • Working knowledge of DCPS exceptional student education policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and district legislation, policies, and standards regarding ESE
  • Knowledge of data management information systems
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
  • Strong presentation development and delivery skills
  • Ability to plan and implement Multidisciplinary Team recommendations
  • Ability to maintain communication with parents and appropriate school and district staff in facilitating referral, eligibility, and reevaluation of students with exceptional needs
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to prepare reports in a timely manner
