Job Summary

 

Entry level professional accounting and auditing work, performed in accordance with established procedures under general administrative or higher-level accountant supervision and checked through review by regular internal checks and post audits.  Maintains accounting and financial records.  Recommends and develops new and modified procedures, and prepares periodic reports and audits reflecting overall or periodic financial conditions for a major unit or operation.  Maintains moderately complex accounting that require familiarity with the functions, policies and practices of the division to which assigned.  This class lies between that of Account Technician and that of Accountant II.  

 

Essential Functions

 

1. Maintains financial records, accounts, ledgers, and journals.

2. Recommends new and modified accounting procedures.

3. Prepares journal entries and posts transactions to proper accounts.

Qualifications.

4. Prepares summaries, trial balances, and related reports, schedules, and statements.

5. Reconciles and balances financial statements and accounting records and ledgers.

6. Receives funds, prepares deposits, and reconciles bank statements.

7. Analyzes and audits accounting and fiscal data, records, and reports.

8. Reviews the work of entry level professional and technical and clerical accounting employees.

9. Composes correspondence, responds to inquiries from, and communicates with, principals, administrators, auditors, customers, vendors, school bookkeepers, and other School District employees to resolve accounting-related problems.

10. Prepares comprehensive reports on conducted field audits; prepares monthly financial reports, and other job-related reports.

11.  Performs other duties as required.

 

Probation: 6 months

 

Open Requirements:  (1) College Degree with a major in Accounting; OR, (2) Must have had three (3) years of accounting experience and have completed twelve (12) semester hours of college accounting courses (six (6) of which must have been on the intermediate level).  Additional college accounting courses over and above the twelve (12) required hours may be substituted for part or all of the required experience on the basis of three (3) semester hours for six (6) months of experience.

 

Promotional Requirements:  All permanent employees of the unit who have served for one (1) year in the class of Account Technician, Payroll Technician, Account Technician Senior, School Bookkeeper II and III, or comparable or higher level accounting/financial-related class may apply, providing they have successfully completed twelve (12) semester hours of college accounting courses (six (6) hours of which must have been on the intermediate level).

  • Ability to read, understand and apply job-related laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures and contracts, information and materials (GASB & FASB)
