Job Summary

 

The candidates filling this position will have the knowledge, experience, and intermediate level skills needed to work in the ESS (Electronic Safety Systems) field. Under limited supervision performs intermediate level job tasks, installation activities,  troubleshooting, reviews drawings, specifications, interpret codes, and standards. This classification lies above that of Electronic Safety Systems Technician I and below that of Electronic Safety Systems Technician III.

 

Essential Functions

Depending upon the specific functional responsibilities, incumbents may perform some or all of the functions in the section below. Percentage of time spent performing essential functions may vary across positions.

 

1. Provides intermediate level Installation:

   a)Fire Alarm

   b)Security Alarm

   c)Intercom Systems

   d)IP Telephone System

  

2. Performs intermediate level Maintenance:

   a)Perform periodic testing of above systems and all peripheral devices

   b)Repair/replace impaired and deficient devices

   c)Clean devices

   d)Maintain documentation

 

3. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Probation: Six (6) months

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

Open Requirements/Experience:  3 years combination of education, training and experience installing, configuring and maintaining electronic safety systems, which includes the operation of a laptop using word processing, spreadsheet applications, database, and network software. 

 

Education may be substituted for experience for coursework, major, or degree; in Computer Science, Data Processing, Management Information Systems, or a related field; as follows: NICET Level II – Associate Engineering Technician;; an Associate’s degree for two (2) years. Certification in A+ and/or Network + may substitute for one (1) year of experience.

 

Promotional Requirements:  All permanent employees of the unit who have worked for one (1) year in the class of Electronic Safety Systems I may be automatically promoted into this classification based upon the recommendation of the department head.   

 

Certifications & Licenses:  NICET Level II preferred. A+, Network+ or similar certification accepted.  A valid Florida driver’s license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. 

 

Mobile Device:  All Technology Division employees will be required to have a working cellular phone that supports voice call and text messaging. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

 

  • Intermediate knowledge of fire alarm, burglar alarm, intercom, and IP telephone equipment including but not limited to types of devices and why their use is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of fire alarm, burglar alarm, intercom, card access, and IP telephone equipment installations including but not limited to cabling, pathway, mounting of devices, and testing requirements.
  • Intermediate knowledge of NFPA Codes and how they apply to installation of devices required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of power supply and loading requirements for all applicable systems
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to read, understand and apply knowledge acquired from field work, alarm/operating manuals, software instructions, and by accessing technical support
  • Ability to perform duties in accordance with district standards and policies
  • Ability to survey site conditions to verify that they support the requirements for the systems proposed
  • Ability to coordinate work activities with peers
