Job Summary
Administers and supports internal and external network communications in a distributed environment with specifically assigned remote work locations. Provides technical support and guidance to users. This classification lies above that of Technology Services Technician II and below that of Technology Services Technician IV - Network.
Essential Functions
1. Installs, configures, tests, administers, monitors, and troubleshoots networking components including, but not limited to routers, switches, and wireless devices.
2. Monitors, identifies and resolves problems regarding interruptions of local area/wide area network connectivity and works with service providers to ensure reliable connectivity.
3. Performs network/host monitoring, traffic analysis, and intrusion detection/prevention.
4. Coordinates and installs upgrades, patches, and new applications and systems.
5. Documents, maintains, and implements processes and procedures including, but not limited to, warranty work, preventive maintenance, disaster recovery, security plans, and training/resource material.
6. Responds to trouble calls, resolves complex problems, and refers more complicated problems to a higher level technician and/or supervisor.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Probation: Six (6) months
Qualifications
Open Requirements:
A five (5) year combination of education, training and experience in installing, configuring and maintaining network communication systems; operation of Wide Area Network and Local Area Network communication devices such as routers, switches, wireless appliances and network management software.
Education may be substituted for experience for coursework, major, or degree; in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; as follows: twelve (12) semester hours of course work for one (1) year of experience; an Associate’s degree for two (2) years; or a Bachelor’s degree for four (4) years of experience.
All Technology Division employees will be required to have a working cellular phone that supports voice call and text messaging.
Promotional Requirements:
All permanent employees of the unit who have served for two (2) years in the class of Technology Services Technician II are eligible to take the test for Technology Services Technician III (Network).
Licensing: A valid Florida driver’s license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class. May be required to furnish an automobile in good condition for use on School Board business, for which mileage compensation will be paid.
