Job Summary

 

Supervises and performs technical work, planning, and executing for the maintenance program of the Duval County School Board.  Ensures maintenance of district facilities.

 

Essential Function

 

1. Directs activities of the various crafts of the Maintenance Department in conjunction with the School Maintenance Supervisors.

2. Leads, directs, and manages Plant Services; recruits, selects, orients, trains, coaches, counsels, and disciplines staff. Plans, monitors, appraises, and reviews staff job contributions to planning, development, delivery, follow-up, and evaluation of Plant Services operations.

3. Provides and monitors management reports on costs, maintenance backlog, preventative maintenance, projected facility, and equipment repairs, and makes recommendations for corrective actions as required.

4. Analyzes maintenance requirements, plans, and procedures; and estimates craft man-hours and material requirements. Coordinates overlapping craft activities and evaluates results of maintenance activities both as to quantity and quality of production.

5. Writes specifications for contracted services; inspects work for compliance with specifications; and reviews work production for efficiency and economy of operations.

6. Inspects schools to determine scope and priority of work to be accomplished by Maintenance Department personnel.

7. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies regarding health, safety, and environmental practices.

8. Responds to inquiries or concerns from district staff.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited college or university. 

 

Experience:  Five (5) years experience managing, supervising, and/or coordinating a broad variety of facility maintenance, repair, and construction functions and projects.  Experience with a large, complex service organization with multiple facilities preferred.

  • Knowledge of state of Florida policies, rules, regulations, and statues related to plant services
  • Knowledge in maintenance and mechanical procedures
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of current and best practices for modern building service techniques
  • Knowledge of principals of major building construction and mechanical trades
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills
  • Strong supervisory management skills
  • Ability to motivate and manage diverse teams
  • Ability to meet timelines
  • Ability to make recommendations for improvements
  • Ability to schedule maintenance functions, administration, personnel requirements and budgeting
  • Ability to analyze data
  • Ability to design workflows and procedures
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings
  • Ability to implement continuous improvement processes
