Job Summary

 

Performs skilled work at the Journeyman level in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures and equipment.  Determines materials and methods used with work reviewed for conformance to codes and procedures.  Assignments are received in the form of oral instructions or written job orders and may be accompanied by sketches, blueprints, and diagrams.  This entrance level class lies below that of Plumber Foreperson.  

 

Essential Functions

Percent of Job

1.    Repairs plumbing fixtures and equipment, i.e., lays out and makes sketches for new plumbing; makes installations of new equipment; tests joints and pipe systems for leaks.

2.    Installs sanitary and ordinary plumbing fixtures.

3.    Repairs air, water and waste-disposal systems.

4.    Cuts opening in walls for pipes.

5.    Opens clogged drains.

10%

6.    Replaces washers on leaky faucets; and related plumbing duties.

10%

7.    Checks safety devices, repairs and replaces when needed.

10%

8.    Flushes and cleans boilers, storage and return tanks, hot water heaters, and similar apparatus.

9.    Makes estimates of time and materials.  Completes work orders.

10%

10. Operates a pick-up truck or 3/4 ton truck in the performance of duties.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Open Requirements:   Ability to read and write English.  Must possess a current valid Certificate of Competency as a Journeyman or Master Plumber issued by the City of Jacksonville, OR, State Certification as a Certified Plumbing Contractor, and must maintain same during employment in this class.

Licensing/Certification/Registration:  A valid Florida driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

  • Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the plumbing trade
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and codes governing plumbing installation and irrigation system maintenance in the county
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work
  • Strong skills in the care and use of materials and tools used in such work
  • Basic oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic word processing and database software skills
  • Basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages
  • Ability to read and comprehend schematics, blueprints and technical manuals
  • Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials
  • Ability to read, understand and apply job-related information and materials such as union contract provisions; applicable laws, rules, regulations, and ordinance codes; policies and procedures; and manufacturer’s and equipment manuals
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
