Summary

 

Skilled mechanical work in the inspection, operation, and maintenance of wastewater pump stations.   This entry level class lies below that of Plumbing Foreperson.

 

 Essential Functions

 

Percent of Job

1.    Reviews assigned work orders and assembles parts and materials for work to be performed.

20%

2.    Maintains contact with dispatcher and Foreperson to receive emergency calls and report on work in progress.

10%

3.    Inspects wastewater collection systems and lift stations for vandalism, state of maintenance, and operational conditions.

10%

4.    Checks pumps and control systems for proper operation.

10%

5.    Diagnoses system operating conditions.

10%

7.    Removes and replaces pumps and associated equipment.

10%

8.    Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, piping, controls and valves.

10%

9.    Maintains log books, records of work performed and makes reports as required.

10%

10. Maintains facilities and grounds in a safe and clean condition.

10%

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications                                                                             

 

Open Requirements:

 

Education/Experience:  Ability to read and write English.   A five (5) year combination of education, training, or experience involving the installation, repair, and operation of wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and lift stations.

 

Promotional Requirements:  NA.

 

Licensing/Certification/Registration: Must possess, at time of employment or by the end of the probationary period, a Class C Wastewater Operator License or Wastewater Class C Certification from a training course (University of Florida TREEO (Training, Research, & Education for Environmental Occupations) center, or comparable) and must maintain same during employment in this class.  A valid Florida driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) 

  • Knowledge of the techniques, methods, and procedures used in the installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, and repair of wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local rules and regulations relating to wastewater equipment operation and maintenance, record keeping, testing, and reporting
  • Knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, and associated control systems used in wastewater pump stations and lift stations
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong skills in the care and use of tools and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, and associated equipment found in wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and lift stations
  • Strong skills in repairing all types and sizes of piping used in wastewater collection systems, pump stations, and lift stations
  • Strong skills in preventative maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, and associated equipment used in wastewater collection systems, lift stations, and pump stations
  • Basic skills in word processing and database software
  • Ability to read and interpret motor repair schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to diagnose problems and make emergency repairs
  • Ability to use various electrical testing equipment
  • Ability to operate power, mechanical and hand tools
  • Ability to read, understand and apply job-related materials including equipment and safety manuals
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
