Job Summary
Provides administrative oversight and supervision of the GEAR UP Project in a five-year effort to increase the awareness of and readiness for opportunities in post-secondary education for students who might not otherwise be aware of those opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Serves as liaison with Division of Curriculum and Instructional Services, school counselors, and SOAR interns to support post-secondary readiness for at-risk youth.
- Coordinates GEAR UP Project activities with school Principal and School Improvement Plan.
- Serves as a member of each target school’s School Improvement Plan.
- Recruits tutors from local businesses, colleges and universities, and high school honor societies.
- Coordinates UNF counselor field experiences in cooperation with SOAR staff and ensures that students receive at least the minimum counseling services provided by the GEAR UP grant.
- Monitors and supervises project evaluation activities to ensure appropriateness to project goals and objectives and timely completion of all evaluation tasks.
- Reports project status to local media; the GEAR UP Oversight Committee; and ensures implementation of Committee recommendations for project amendments.
- Maintains project records and completes and submits district, state and federal agency reports. Manages and is accountable for all project finances.
- Organizes and conducts parent outreach activities, including a monthly newsletter, home visitations, and telephone contact.
- Pursues scholarship and other incentive support throughout the Jacksonville community, including fundraising activities and solicitations from business, religious and civic leaders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years teaching, counseling, or social services experience. Mentorship training and experience preferred. Demonstrated successful budget management experience preferred.
Certifications & Licenses: Florida Teaching Certificate.
