Job Summary

 

Serves as the representative of Exceptional Student Education in disciplinary actions involving students who are eligible for exceptional educational programs. Assists school/district personnel and parents in development of appropriate alternative behavioral strategies and utilization of community agencies.

 

Essential Functions 

 

1.Provides direct, immediate assistance requested by school personnel and parents

involving suspension or expulsion of exceptional students.

2. Develops and teaches preventive strategies/alternative actions for use by

administrators, teachers and parents in reducing student misconduct both at school

and in the home.

3. Coordinates activities with school personnel and parents of exceptional students

regarding suspension/expulsion procedures. Serves as Chairperson for Conduct

Review Committee proceedings.

4. Serves as liaison between the Exceptional Student Education program, community

agencies (HRS and Juvenile Justice), and parents, in providing maximum assistance

and resources for exceptional students, including implementation of alternative

delivery systems.

5. Maintains required records and data.

6. Advocates on behalf of exceptional students and their parents ensuring all

procedural safeguards.

7. Makes home visits as necessary for the purpose of evaluation of student need.

8. Assists in identifying students who appear to be in need of a change in

program/placement, further evaluation, and educational programming or support

services.

9. Delivers in-service training to school personnel on behavior management planning

for severely disruptive students.

10. Participates in Child Student Team activities.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree preferred.

 

Experience: Five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience in exceptional student education or a combination of exceptional/regular education teaching experience. Background in behavior management techniques is strongly recommended.

 

Certifications & Licenses: Florida Department of Education certification in at least one (1) area of Exceptional Student Education, Administration/Supervision or Educational Leadership.
